SACRAMENTO – Yesterday, Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB 389, legislation authored by Senator Ben Allen (D-Santa Monica) to address a century-old loophole in California’s water rights system. The new law, which takes effect January 1, authorizes the State Water Resources Control Board to verify the validity and scope of claims to senior water rights in the state.

SACRAMENTO – In a floor ceremony in the California Senate today, Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica) recognized Eva Nathanson as the Senate District 24 honoree for Yom HaShoah. Also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day, Yom HaShoah memorializes the six million Jews murdered during World War II while uplifting stories of those who helped Jewish refugees hide and escape.




SACRAMENTO – Senator Ben Allen today issued the following statement regarding SB 709, a new measure intended to rectify unintended consequences of California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) program. The bill closes a loophole that incentivizes industrial dairy operations to increase herd sizes and emit ever-greater amounts of methane by providing them with lucrative pollution credits to capture the potent greenhouse gas.

The Iranian-born Zar is a strong advocate for human rights as well as empowerment both at home and around the world. She has been proactive in speaking in support of the women’s movement taking place in Iran.
