Vernon, California – Senator Ben Allen (D-Santa Monica), chair of the Senate Committee on Environmental Quality, released the following statement after the U.S. EPA proposed to add Exide Technologies’ former site in Vernon to the Superfund National Priorities List (NPL).
SANTA MONICA – Big Blue Bus riders and operators will experience increased safety with the passage of SB 1417 (Allen), a new law signed by Governor Newsom that allows the City of Santa Monica’s Department of Transportation to deny access to Big Blue Bus services for individuals routinely cited for policy infractions, and/or arrested or convicted for a misdemeanor or felony committed on buses or transit facilities.

SACRAMENTO – Yesterday, Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB 389, legislation authored by Senator Ben Allen (D-Santa Monica) to address a century-old loophole in California’s water rights system. The new law, which takes effect January 1, authorizes the State Water Resources Control Board to verify the validity and scope of claims to senior water rights in the state.
