2023 Summer Newsletter
Dear Friend,
I hope this note finds you well and surviving the summer heat!
Our state government’s fiscal year begins July 1, which means that over the last six months, the Legislature and the Governor have engaged in intense discussion and debate about our state budget. The process begins in early January with the Governor proposing a budget plan for the upcoming fiscal year based on estimated state revenues. Legislators, local government officials, constituents, and other stakeholders make their voices heard, and in mid-May the Governor publishes an updated version of the initial proposal (known as the May Revision). Between the release of the May Revision and the June 30 deadline for the Governor to sign the Budget Act, leaders from the Executive Branch and the Legislature negotiate the final details. In this newsletter are highlights from this year’s new state budget.
As always, my staff and I are here to help you in any way we can. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions about legislative work or assistance with accessing state services.
All the best,
Ben Allen
Senator, 24th District
