It has been a busy few months in SD24!
We honored those who have fallen in the line of duty during Memorial Day ceremonies in Westwood and Redondo Beach. My team also partnered with the West LA VA Campus to host a Document Service Day to help unhoused veterans access drivers licenses, birth certificates, and more.
In June, we celebrated Pride at the West Hollywood and Los Angeles Pride parades. I was joined by my team and family to celebrate the month! As we have seen an uptick in attacks against the LGBTQ community across our state and nation, it is more important than ever to stand up for the rights of everyone in our community and ensure equal rights. By the end of session, we had passed ACA5 to protect marriage equality in our state, sending the measure to next year's ballot.
I celebrated the 4th of July along with my team and thousands of community members at parades in Santa Monica and Westchester. It was so good to see everyone celebrating the holiday!
I joined California State Parks and the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains for a tour of the Topanga Lagoon and Topanga Creek watershed. I’m pleased to see the progress they are making to protect one of the last remaining coastal lagoon ecosystems in the region.
Earlier I visited the Friendship Foundation’s summer camp and saw the site for their new campus in Redondo Beach. They give children and young adults with special needs a safe and inclusive environment to enjoy sports, art, music, and social programs. Great to meet some campers too!
