SACRAMENTO – Senate Bill 277, authored by Dr. Richard Pan (D – Sacramento), and Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica) to abolish the personal belief exemption that currently allows parents to opt out of vaccinating their children prior to school enrollment passed the Senate Education Committee on a 7 – 2 vote today.

Dr. Pan and Senator Allen presented amendments that protect every student’s right to be safe at school while preserving every student’s right to an education.




Sacramento, CA – Legislation authored by Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica) to establish a renewable gas standard, Senate Bill (SB) 687, passed the Senate Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee today on a vote of 7 - 3.  The state’s gas sector causes one-quarter of California’s greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), and significant air and water pollution.




Sacramento, CA – Today Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica) spoke in favor of Senate Resolution 19 (SR 19), a resolution proclaiming March 23 – 27 as California Aerospace Week, on the California State Senate floor.  Allen, a co-author of the measure, is Vice Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Defense and Aerospace.  To watch his remarks, click here.




November 4, 2014 was a record low turnout for a regularly scheduled general election at 42.2% of registered voters statewide.




Sacramento, CA – Today, Senators Jean Fuller (R-Bakersfield) and Ben Allen (D-Santa Monica) presented Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR) 14 declaring March 2015 as Arts Education Month on the Senate floor. The measure passed on a vote of 32 – 0.
