Delivering Support for Workforce Housing

Dear Friends,

In 2022, I wrote a law to establish the South Bay Regional Housing Trust to facilitate more affordable housing within the South Bay region. However, we’ve since witnessed more working families get priced out of these very communities in which they serve, while the Housing Trust has not been legally authorized to invest in moderate-income workforce housing.

To address this, I worked closely with leaders from the South Bay cities to expand the types of projects the Housing Trust can fund and build. Thanks to this collaboration, the Trust now has the authority to finance housing for moderate-income households, giving cities a new tool to support housing needs for teachers, health care professionals, first responders, service members, and other workers who earn too much to qualify for traditional affordable housing programs.
