Celebrating Vision To Learn: Our Nonprofit of the Year!
Dear Friends,
We had the privilege of celebrating nonprofits which are making a tremendous difference across California, and recognized Vision To Learn as our own 2026 Nonprofit of the Year!
Vision To Learn addresses a simple truth: undetected visual impairments unnecessarily leave students falling behind in the classroom because they cannot clearly see or read the material being taught. Children who receive glasses make greater learning gains than the gains achieved by extending the school day or by other more costly intervention methods.
Since partnering with Los Angeles Unified School District, they now work with school districts across 15 different states and have brought quality eye care to more than 3.8 million students nationwide, including helping over 650,000 students receive the glasses they need.
In other news, I recently led three separate hearings as chair of the Committee on Energy, Utilities and Communications, the Joint Committee on the Arts, and the Special Committee on International Sporting Events:
- Our Energy hearing discussed the recently released Natural Catastrophe Resiliency Study and how California can improve utility and insurance affordability and resiliency through strategic energy policy.
- Our International Sporting Events hearing brought together leaders across the City of Los Angeles and the LA28 Organizing Committee to discuss infrastructure, transportation, and sustainability goals ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- Our Arts hearing focused on California’s Creative Economy Strategic Plan with leaders from the Arts Council, Department of Education, California Workforce Development Board, and other stakeholders working to improve our creative future.
You can find each of the hearings and more here.
If you have any questions on these matters or need any assistance, please feel free to contact our Capitol office at (916) 651-4024 or our district office at (310) 414-8190. You can also follow us on social media or visit our website for additional updates from Sacramento and around the district.
All my best,
