Slate of Fire Recovery Bills Clears Major Legislative Hurdle
SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Ben Allen (D-Pacific Palisades) has championed a slate of wildfire recovery bills that cleared through the Senate Appropriations Committee today.
“The Legislature has acted expeditiously on both monetary measures and policy that will aid in our fire recovery efforts,” said Senator Allen. “While the attention of the world has moved on, leaders up and down California maintain our full commitment to providing meaningful relief for the impacted residents and region at large. We know Los Angeles is resilient, and the state’s largest city will continue to provide a haven where ambitious, inspiring dreams become a reality for generations to come.”
In the wake of the LA Fires in January, Senator Allen shifted his legislative priorities for his final term toward providing meaningful assistance for the impacted communities. This includes the introduction of bills that focus on property tax flexibility, assistance for mobilehome owners, insurance streamlining, and emergency preparedness.
- SB 495: Requires insurers to pay 100 percent of a policy holder’s contents inventory coverage without requiring the itemization of lost contents from a natural disaster.
- SB 581: Transitions nearly 3,000 seasonal CalFire firefighters to fulltime employment and fully staffs fire stations across the state.
- SB 663: Extends the deadline to file misfortune and calamity claims, and the deadline to rebuild and transfer the base property tax onto the rebuilt home.
- SB 749: Strengthens mobile homeowners ability to maintain the use of the land as an affordable mobile home park after it is destroyed by a natural disaster.
Each of these bills will now head to the Senate floor to be voted on by the June 6 deadline.
