Sacramento, CA – Los Angeles nonprofit, Jewish Family Service LA, has been recognized by Senator Ben Allen as District 26 Woman of the Year. A comprehensive network of support services that welcomes individuals and families of all ages and identities to a full spectrum of care, Jewish Family Service LA offers critical services and support to guide others on paths to safety, security, wellness, and fulfillment.

“We are deeply grateful to Jewish Family Service LA for stepping up to provide even more crucial services to our most vulnerable neighbors during this especially challenging year,” said Senator Ben Allen, D-Santa Monica. “JFS LA embodies the best of Jewish social justice values with their sustained support of the hungry, the aging, victims of domestic violence, and those struggling with mental health – saving countless lives while helping people of all faiths and ethnicities.”

“The staff and volunteers of Jewish Family Service LA make a difference every day in the lives of thousands of Angelenos,” said President & CEO Eli Veitzer. “We are deeply humbled to be recognized by Senator Ben Allen as a Nonprofit of the Year.”

Jewish Family Service LA is one of over a hundred other nonprofits that will be honored by their state Senators and Assemblymembers for the tremendous contributions to the communities they serve.

For the last five years, legislators from across California have chosen a Nonprofit of the Year in their district. Traditionally, Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on the Nonprofit Sector Assemblywoman Monique Limón, D-Santa Barbara, and CalNonprofits invited legislators and honorees to a celebratory luncheon on California Nonprofits Day. This year, the June luncheon was canceled in response to the Shelter-in-Place orders, but legislators have moved forward with honoring nonprofits doing great work in their districts.

Jewish Family Service LA has worked closely with Senator Allen’s office to create the Multipurpose Senior Services program, ensuring it would continue to receive funding in the face of budget cuts. The program allows seniors to age in the comfort of their own homes.

Former District 26 Nonprofits of the Year include Project Angel Food and Step Up On Second.
