Share Your Property Insurance Nonrenewal Story
Dear Friends,
If you have ever been dropped by your insurer without warning or a chance to fix the issue, we want to hear from you! Too many of us are unexpectedly losing our insurance coverage at an alarming rate. According to a 2024 report, Californians were dropped by their insurer at the fourth highest rate in the nation, and we aren’t given much notice time or an opportunity to maintain our coverage by fixing identified issues.
My team has been working hard to solve this. I’ve been running a policy (SB 1301) that would give policyholders at least three months of notice before an insurer can drop them, and provide a path to retaining coverage if they make repairs that address the reason the insurer decided to nonrenew. More notice time and an opportunity to remedy will simultaneously help people stay privately insured, rather than resort to the FAIR Plan, and reduce an individual property’s risk to help save lives and money.
We encourage you to share your story so lawmakers in Sacramento can understand the gravity of this issue and the need for this solution.
If you have any questions on these matters or need any assistance, please feel free to contact our Capitol office at (916) 651-4024 or our district office at (310) 414-8190. You can also follow us on social media or visit our website for additional updates from Sacramento and around the district.
