Led by our Senate President Pro Tem McGuire, the California Senate sent a delegation to New York City to participate in Climate Week events this September, where we had the opportunity to meet and work with leaders working on climate matters from around the nation and world. There continues to be a great deal of national and global interest in California’s leadership on advancements in clean energy and transportation, circularity systems to reduce waste, resilient infrastructure investments for our water and wildfire protection needs, and our greenhouse gas emissions reduction efforts.
My SB 867, which placed a $10 billion climate bond on the November ballot, was an important point of conversation during the panel discussions. From safe drinking water and drought preparations to flood management infrastructure; wildfire prevention to clean energy developments; and outdoor space protections to biodiversity preservation – these timely State investments would play a critical role in preparing California for the climate challenges of the near future.
