California’s complex economy and population of 40 million people requires us to constantly be evolving and adapting to the changing needs of our state.
This two-year session saw many wins for our climate, working families, students, and communities at large. Some of the bills I authored, co-authored or managed:
- SB 389: Grants the State Water Board with the ability to investigate individual water right claims to verify their basis of right.
- SB 469: Removes barriers to financing and constructing state-funded affordable housing.
- SB 867: Places a $10 billion climate bond on the November ballot to fund projects for safe drinking water, wildfire prevention, drought preparedness, and clean air. Read more: California Globe: SB 867 – Proposed Climate Bond for November Ballot
- SB 1143: Expands the consumer excess paint recycling and management program, PaintCare, to accept every type of paint available to consumers. Read more: E&E News by Politico: California to expand its paints recycling
- SB 1297: Authorizes the City of Malibu to install speed cameras at five locations along Pacific Coast Highway to slow traffic down. Read more: CBS Los Angeles: Newsom approves 5 speed cameras to be installed on PCH in Malibu
- SB 1406: Expands the notice requirements an assisted living facility must provide to a senior resident when the facility is changing their rates on the resident.
- SB 1417: Authorizes the Santa Monica Department of Transportation to issue transit prohibition orders to deny dangerous riders from accessing Big Blue Bus metro services. Read more: Santa Monica Daily Press: Newsom signs bill allowing Big Blue Bus bans for offenders
- SJR 17: Urges the Biden Administration to establish the Sáttítla National Monument. Read more: LAist: California officials urge President Biden to designate three new national monuments
- ACA 5 (Low): Repeals the unlawful California Constutional provisoin that establishes a marriage is only valid between a man and a woman.
- AB 3216 (Hoover): Requires school districts to develop a plan to prevent students from using phones during school hours. Read more: Politico: Gavin Newsom signs restrictions on cell phones in schools
- AB 2552 (Freidman): Prohibits the use of additional, particularly dangerous types of rodenticides by the public in order to protect wildlife, while maintaining exceptions for their use to protect public health, water supplies, and agriculture. - AB 3024 (Ward): Expands the Ralph Civil Rights Act to prohibit the distribution of materials on a private property for the purpose of terrorizing the owner or occupant of that property. Read more: KTLA: California bill to curb ‘hate littering’ signed into law
