Senate Leader de León Issues Statement on Trump Administration’s Decision to Roll Back Clean Power Plan

SACRAMENTO – California Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement after Environmental Protection Agency Chief Scott Pruitt moved to repeal the Clean Power Plan:

“By withdrawing from the Clean Power Plan, Donald Trump and Scott Pruitt are selling out consumers and mortgaging our future to prop up industries of the past.

“At a time when millions of Americans are struggling with the consequences of climate change – from wildfires raging across California to the devastation caused by a series of historic hurricanes across the US and the Caribbean – this move is especially cynical and shortsighted.

“Washington’s utter failure to confront the existential threat of climate change will go down among the most shameful chapters in American history.

“But no matter how desperately the president and Republicans in Congress try to ignore reality, they will not halt our progress in California.  We are well on our way to a 100% clean energy future.  We have created over half a million clean energy jobs.  And we will not allow small minds to delay our grand vison for a sustainable and prosperous 21st century economy.”
