STATEMENT: Pro Tem Congratulates Senator Mitchell on Maximum Family Grant Repeal

Friday, June 10, 2016

LOS ANGELES – California Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement following the passage of the Budget Conference Committee report:

“For more than 20 years, California’s Maximum Family Grant rule has assaulted the dignity of women’s rights and left hundreds of thousands of our state’s children in abject poverty. Thanks to the tireless leadership of Senator Holly Mitchell (D-Los Angeles) and the advocacy of a broad range of grassroots organizations, this injustice will come to its overdue end. I am proud that the repeal of the Maximum Family Grant rule will be included in the budget we will pass next week, and I thank the Governor and Assembly for standing together with Senator Mitchell and the Senate to finally right this wrong.”
