SACRAMENTO – California State Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement today:
"On behalf of California’s state senate I wish to convey our thanks to our fearless firefighters for their tireless efforts combating historic wildfires and our heartfelt condolences to those who lost loved ones and homes in the fires.
“The damage caused by these wildfires to property, our environment, our infrastructure and our economy is staggering.
“We must learn from these tragedies. It is clear to me that we can no longer ignore the role Climate Change plays in elevating California’s risk of destructive wildfires.
“In the coming months, leaders from state, federal and local government along with stakeholders in all impacted fields need to prioritize developing a collective and comprehensive plan to address the environmental and economic impacts of massive wildfires and to prepare our state for the elevated risks we will be inevitably facing in the future."
