SACRAMENTO, CA – Latino members of the California State Senate today are spearheading the passage of AB 60 (Alejo). The bill aims to provide undocumented residents in California with a valid driver’s license. AB 60 passed the Senate this afternoon and is now in the Assembly pending further consideration.

SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Senate today approved Assembly Bill 241 (Ammiano), the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights, with Sen. Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) as floor manager. The vote was 22-12.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, the UC Davis Center for Human Lactation and the California WIC Association (CWA), released “Policies, Promises, and Practice,” newly released state and county fact sheets that highlight the exclusive breastfeeding “gap” is greatest in hospitals serving low-income mothers and babies. The data also shows that breastfeeding-supportive hospital policies ensure quality maternity care that mothers can count on.

SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Senate today passed Assembly Bill 4 (Ammiano), the TRUST Act (Transparency and Responsibility Using State Tools), on a 25-11 vote. The bill, in the works for three years, now heads back to the Assembly for a concurrence vote. The TRUST Act will end the abuses under the federal government’s Secure Communities (S-Comm) program. Under the program, local law enforcement has used local resources to hold people – many of whom are never charged with a crime – for federal immigration purposes.

SACRAMENTO, CA – The Legislature took final action today on Senate Bill 606 (De León), unanimously voting to protect the children of public figures from harassment.

“No child, regardless of his or her parent’s occupation, should be subjected to such unwarranted and harmful persecution,” Senator Kevin de León said. “By increasing penalties and authorizing civil actions, SB 606 will have a significant deterrent effect on those who would consider tormenting the most vulnerable and defenseless members of our society.”
