SACRAMENTO – Highlighting the need for a culture change, Senator Kevin de Leόn and Legislative Women’s Caucus Chair and Vice Chair, Assemblywoman Bonnie Lowenthal and Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson announced Senate Bill 967 which will require California colleges and universities to address campus sexual violence by requiring them to adopt consistent victim-centered sexual assault response policies and protocols that follow best practices and professional standards.

SACRAMENTO – The Senate Rules Committee has approved the establishment of a Council of Economic and Policy Advisors as a collaborative relationship between the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Anderson School of Management and the State Senate. This new partnership creates an official channel for legislators to approach academics for solutions to overcome complex issues.

SACRAMENTO—The Senate today approved legislation (SB 808) by Senator Kevin de Leόn (D-Los Angeles)  to ban the sale, manufacture, purchase and trafficking of plastic and self-made firearms – referred to as “ghost guns” – in California.  The bill requires self-made or assembled firearms to contain permanent pieces of metal and to be registered with the Department of Justice (DOJ) through a serial number and gun owner background check.  The Senate floor vote was 21 ayes – 9 noes.
