SACRAMENTO, CA –  Responding to alleged mismanagement and enforcement lapses at the California Department of Toxic and Substance Control (DTSC), that have permitted toxic waste to be dumped into public streams and leaked into our air, Senator Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) and Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Long Beach) have called for an investigation by the Senate Office of Oversight and Outcomes.

LOS ANGELES, CA –To implement Proposition 39 passed by the voters, Campaign Co-Chair Senator Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) is convening the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Fiscal Oversight and Bonded Indebtedness tomorrow, Thursday, February 21, 2013 in Los Angeles. The hearing will examine the best ways to implement Proposition 39 to create jobs and improve schools.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Seeking to increase the opportunity for low-income students to better attain a higher education, Senator Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) held a rally with students to introduce companion Senate Bills 284 & 285, which together create the College Access Tax Credit Fund that will more than double the Cal Grant B Access Award for more than 177,000 students at no cost to the state.

Washington, D.C. – Called a “a model for addressing a national problem” in a recent editorial by the New York Times, the California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Trust Act is aimed at the 6.3 million Californians, mostly lower and middle-income workers, who have no access to a retirement plan at work, by providing them a portable and reliable retirement plan that will serve as a modest supplement to Social Security.
