“This tax plan is an insult to millions of Americans. After running a populist campaign appealing to the real frustration and economic insecurity of the middle class, the President and Republicans in Congress are pulling a classic bait and switch. They are raising taxes for millions of working families so they can give the wealthiest Americans and multinational corporations massive tax breaks. They are raising taxes on students -- the aspiring educators and innovators that America needs to compete in a global economy -- to pad the profits of the world's richest companies and Wall Street Bankers.
“The non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation -- Congress' own authority on estimating the impact of tax proposals -- has found that this proposal would increase the deficit by over $1 trillion over the next decade. And yet, Senate Republicans have did not hold a single public hearing on this measure. Most Senators did not even read the bill by the time they voted on it in the middle of the night.
“The depth of this hypocrisy is boundless. This irresponsible plan could trigger historic spending cuts for programs that countless Americans depend on, including Medicare. The bill could devastate renewable energy innovation, which is the one of the fastest growing industries and job creators in America.
“This proposal is based entirely on faulty math and false promises, and it will only lead to even greater economic inequality in our nation. It's a sick joke, and unless you make more than a million dollars a year, it comes at your expense.”
