Senate Leader to Address Vatican on Climate

Tuesday, October 31, 2017

SACRAMENTO – At the invitation of Pope Francis’ Pontifical Academy of Sciences, California State Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) will address international leaders and experts at the Health of People, Health of Planet Workshop at the Vatican this Friday.

Senate Leader de León will highlight California’s recent groundbreaking efforts to democratize access to clean energy and promote environmental justice, and share lessons learned from the state’s decades-long commitment to promoting energy efficiency, clean energy, and environmental protection.

“We have a proven roadmap to address climate change and improve public health that is fundamentally just and also strengthens our economy,” Senate Leader de Leon said. “By democratizing our climate policies and making sure the benefits of clean energy reach every economic strata and every corner of our state, we’re dramatically expanding the environmental movement and accelerating the transition to a clean energy future.”
