RELEASE: SENATOR DE LEÓN PRAISES SCAQMD ENFORCEMENT ACTION SEEKING $40 MILLION IN PENALTIES

Thursday, January 16, 2014

SACRAMENTO --  Senator Kevin de Leόn (D-Los Angeles) applauded the action of the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) for filing a lawsuit today seeking up to $40 million in penalties from Exide Technologies for air quality violations from illegal emissions of lead and arsenic.

“Human beings are being exposed to appalling levels of cancer-causing poisons by Exide.  This move by SCAQMD is more than welcome.  Cleaning up this company is long overdue.  If Exide can’t operate safely, they need to be shut down,” said Senator De Leόn.
