Assemblymember Kevin de León, Chair of the Assembly Appropriations Committee, today released an analysis by the Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) on the validity of the Varshney studies by Sanjay Varshney, Dean of Sacramento State College of Business Administration, that claim extraordinary costs associated with the implementation of AB 32, California’s landmark Global Warming Solutions Act and state regulations.  Proponents of an initiative to repeal AB 32 frequently cite this study (www.suspendab32.org) and, in fact, reference its findings in the initiative itself which is currently being circulated for voter signatures.

Assembly Member Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) urged the State Board of Education to take action today to approve the three Quality Education Investment Act (QEIA) waiver requests that were submitted by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD):

“Bottom line, these funds belong to the students—these students were selected for the QEIA program, and they should not be penalized because they have the opportunity to transfer to new, state-of-the-art facilities that are opening in their neighborhoods.”

Los Angeles, CA-Assembly Member Kevin De Leon (D-Los Angeles) and LA City Council Member Ed P. Reyes will host a Free Tax Preparation seminar for low to moderate-income city residents.

Tax preparation will be done by appointment only. Residents are required to call 323-225-4545 to schedule an appointment and must bring a Photo ID, Social Security Card or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number for all family members, all W-2s and 1099s if appropriate.

(Sacramento) – It is illegal for convicted felons to purchase guns in California.  But it is perfectly legal to sell ammunition to criminals. California Assemblymember, Kevin de Leon (Los Angeles) has written legislation aimed at keeping bullets out of the hands of felons, gang members or anyone else prohibited for owning a weapon.  More in this Assembly Web Report.
