Press Conference/Community Meeting in LA

(Los Angeles, CA) – Utilizing the Legislative summer recess break, Senator Kevin de León is meeting in Los Angeles with the Chinese business community in advance of a jobs trip to China to discuss ways he can maximize his upcoming trip to learn what might be most beneficial for partnerships between California and Chinese businesses.

"China is an emerging global economic powerhouse. There are certainly lessons we can learn directly and through partnership exploration development that can help us with job creation here in California," said Senator De León. "I'm meeting with the leading Chinese businessmen in my community to learn more about where my emphasis should be and how I might use this trip to benefit their trade and economic development activities."

Senator De León is carrying Senate Bill 535 known as the California Communities Healthy Air Revitalization Trust (CHART), which helps fulfill the commitments made by our state in the California Global Warming Solutions Act (AB 32) prescribing that we invest in neighborhoods that continue to suffer from higher levels of pollution and which are least able to confront the expected impacts of the climate change crisis.

Coalition for Clean Air Award to Senator De León

Leadership in Renewables and Healthier Communities

(Los Angeles, CA) – Recognized as a champion for clean air in California, Senator Kevin de León was presented today, Friday, July 15, 2011, with the Leadership in Government Award by the Coalition for Clean Air at their 40th Anniversary Bash.
 
Environmental Protection Agency Secretary Linda Adams introduced the Senator today calling him a champion for clean air in California’s poorest communities.

Iron River of U.S. Guns Fueling the Mexican Drug War

Sen. De León’s Reso Promotes Greater Fed Enforcement

(Sacramento, CA) – Responding to the obscene flow of weapons thatimmigrate freely across the U.S. border to Mexico, Senator Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) has introduced Senate Joint Resolution 10 (SJR 10) urging the President and the Congress of the United States to pursue a comprehensive approach to stem the trafficking of illicit United States firearms to Mexico.

“Lawlessness is rampant on our southern border and most people are not aware that the illegal trafficking of U.S. firearms is fueling the violence,” said Senator De León.  “I’ve introduced SJR 10 to push our Federal Government to halt the iron river of U.S. guns flowing illegally into Mexico. By doing so we can assure safety for the citizens of the United States and Mexico.”
