SACRAMENTO, CA – The Governor signed Senate Bill 606 (De León) today, September 24, 2013, increasing the penalties for the intentional harassment of a child because of their parents’ employment.

I look forward to working with Governor and moving this bill to his desk in January.”
SACRAMENTO, CA – Both houses of the Legislature voted unanimously to pass Senate Bill 39, which protects local agencies from frivolous lawsuits filed by public officers convicted of felonies against the public’s trust in order to recuperate lost pension benefits.
“The Legislature voted to protect local government from overly greedy officials that have for too long defrauded the public,” Senator Kevin de León said. “SB 39 is permanent and lasting relief in order to safeguard cities across the state.”

SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Senate today passed Assembly Bill 4 (Ammiano), the TRUST Act (Transparency and Responsibility Using State Tools), on a 25-11 vote. The bill, in the works for three years, now heads back to the Assembly for a concurrence vote. The TRUST Act will end the abuses under the federal government’s Secure Communities (S-Comm) program. Under the program, local law enforcement has used local resources to hold people – many of whom are never charged with a crime – for federal immigration purposes.
